It's Friday!

Well Pop was supposed to get to come home yesterday or today. However when Fred went down last night he had fluid build up on his lungs again and his white blood count was elevated. So they put him under today and they were going to go in and suction the fluid off of his lung. Hopefully this will help with the white blood cell count problem as well. Fred and I are heading down in a few minutes to see how he is doing. Will keep everyone updated once we know more. Please keep praying for a healthy and full recovery. He has now been in the hospital for 3 weeks and he is definatly ready to come home!

On a lighter note, tmrw is Heston Michael Henrichsmeyer's Diaper/Gas Card Shower at our house. We hope that everyone comes out and has lots of fun all while helping out Mike and Shawna Sue. They are such amazing parents to little Hagan and I know that they will be even more awesome parents to both of them when Heston makes his arrival!

Wacky and Wild Wednesday!

Well I didn't have the intention of have a Catchy Weekday related title to my blog each day but so far this week that is the way that it has worked out! Yesterday around lunch Chad text me and asked me to see about getting him a Dr appt because his knee is bothering him. I called our Dr and they said he is no longer an active patient there as he has not been since 1998! Yes, I know that sounds crazy to most of you but he is not generally sick. In the 14 years that we have been together he has only had a few problems 2 of those being surgery on his wrist (one of which was just a few weeks after we started dating the other just a year after we were married) Other than that the only other time he has seen a Dr was in the ER for a REALLY BAD case of Poison Oak. Don't get me wrong he has seen a Dr since 98 but it's been for his DOT physical that they send him to for work and that is the Dr they send him to.

So here was our dilemma, wait 2 days for them to call and let us know if they would accept him as an active patient again or send him to the ER. I told him he just needed to go to the ER as the Dr would end up sending him to get X-Rays anyhow. (Mind you his knee bothered him for 4 or 5 days before he bothered to tell me about it!!!!!)

So off to the ER he went after work, they did blood work and x-rays, nothing broken but it is a very bad sprain. He is to keep it wrapped and to stay off of until next week, they even gave him crutches as they don't want him bearing any weight on it for the next several days................So Tuesday turned out to be a crazy day in our house but that's nothing new. He took it easy and for the most part slept pretty decent last night. He took off the rest of the week and will be at home. I am sure that he is using his crutches and resting like he should while I am away at work!!! (sense the sarcasm in the afformentioned statement!)

On a good note, spoke with Uncle Fred yesterday evening after his visit with Pop and all is going well on the road to coming home. They are going to unhook him from everything today and see how that goes. If it all goes well he will get to come home tmrw!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am going down after work to check on him and make sure that all is well and that he will get to come home tmrw! (Thanks to Megan and Chris for coming to help with the kids this evening)

Terrific Tuesday

Well I headed down to see Pop after work last night and I have some wonderful news!!!
The Dr's told him yesterday that he will be able to come home in a few days. Looking at Wednesday or Thursday. He is up and moving around more every single day, he had walked 3 different times before I got there at 5:45 last night and that is not including the 2 times they came to get him for some tests. The swelling in his hand is getting much better, he can actually move his fingers and you can see the lines and wrinkles in his hands again. This is a good thing, because the swelling was so bad prior to that you could not see any of that. He finishes his Argatroban (spelling is correct, I checked the bag last night!) today and they will start him on his Cumidin. He was in a very good mood and is looking forward to coming home :) As we all are also!!!!! I will continue to update as more information becomes available and will definatly let everyone now when he comes home!

What a wonderful weekend.....for the most part!

Well my weekend started out with a bang! I hosted a Margarita Spa Party at my house on Friday and it was a blast!!!!!! I really needed some time with just the ladies to relax and unwind for a few hours. Once we were done with the spa, we headed upstairs for some drinks! We had lots of fun visiting and catching up on all kinds of stuff. I am thankful to each of the ladies that were able to come. Everyone had something fun to discuss.............Jess and Kara and those pesky beads, Lauren and Melissa......wondering what Sea Breeze is? Jamie and Erin both getting part of the mud mask in the wrong body part (up the nose and in the mouth)!

During the relaxation time of the spa, of course my phone started to ring. I quickly hit the mute button and decided I would check it later. Soon after the relaxation portion Theresa showed me a text that she got from Mary, stating I needed to call her ASAP it was about Pop! My heart sunk and I grabbed my phone and ran upstairs to find out what was going on. Mary told me that he had an adverse reaction to the heparin they had put him on and his platelet count had dropped very low. She said Fred was with him and the Dr was in and they were getting it under control! Thank goodness :)

I took the kids with me to the hospital on Saturday and they had a great visit with Pop. While there 3 different Dr's were in to check on him. One said his pneumonia is really starting to clear up. Another said that they are still monitoring his issue with the blood clot and he is on Gatroban (sp?) which helps with the adverse reaction to the heparin and helps build his platelet count back up. He will be on this medicine for 5 days and then they will start him on Cumidin (sp?). The third Dr said that his lungs sounded good, but he needed to keep his feet elevated to help reduce the sweeling.

He is doing well over all, he is still getting up and walking at least 4 times a day. His blood sugar is still on the high side and as earlier posts state they are still solving that with insulin.

Mary went down to visit yesterday and said he was doing well and that he ate a good lunch and was in a good humor. I am headed back down tonight after work, taking him some things he asked Mary to have me bring. With any luck, and some continued prayer, he will be home by the end of the week.

Not Me Monday

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

I have not let my husband do ALL of the laundry for the entire family for two whole weeks. Not me, I would never think about letting him just do it all while I run back and forth to the hospital at least every other day and on the days I don't go, just be to worn out and lazy to help him even just a bit!

I did not leave my daughter crying by the door yelling "I want one more hug!" Not me, I would never deny her a hug just because otherwise she would cling to my leg screaming "please don't leave!"

I did not in anyway coerce my son to get out of bed and get ready for school by offering him fruit snacks for breakfast. Not me, I know that fruit snacks are not a healthy choice for breakfast therefore would never offer them to my son just to keep him happy and make the morning go much smoother by not having to argue with him!

News about Pop

I went do to visit with him yesterday evening when I got off work. He looks really good and is feeling good as well. His blood sugar is high but they think that is do to the medications he is on. They are monitoring it and giving him insulin as needed. His white blood cell count was back down in the normal range which is a BIG step in the right direction. He has some blockage in his neck where the central line was from the surgery. This is causing his right arm and his legs to swell. They started him on blood thinners last night and are having a hematologist (sp?) come see him about that today. He was in good humor and rather chatty which I was glad of. I will be going back down to visit with him again tmrw. He will be really excited when I get there as I am going to take the kiddos with me and that seems to really make his day. More news will be posted as it becomes available and we continue to hope and pray that he can return home soon :)

FUNNY FRIDAY

Well I have spent lots of time trying to come up with a creative flair to ad to my blog. Each person has their own little adage to make their page special. Jamie has Wordless Wednesday, Mckmamma started Not me Monday and so on. So I have come up with Funny Friday where I will share a funny story each week that has happened to someone in my family (this includes actual relatives, work family and fair family....)

Last week after picking up Colton from school we had to stop at the flower shop to order a plant for a friend of mine (her grandma had passed). While there we chatted with my Aunt Annabelle who works there. She asked Colton if he had been to the hospital to see Pop. I told her he had only been able to visit for a few minutes the week prior while he was on the 6th floor before being taken back to the ICU. This is because they don't allow children under 12 in the ICU.

When we got to the car Colton asked me when he would be able to go see Pop again. I said as soon as he gets out of the ICU and back to the 6th floor. He asked why he could not visit the ICU, I again explained to him that he could not visit because he was not 12. He then proceeded to tell me "Well then you can't go see him either......because your 31!!!!!" I just laughed at this idea but to him, I was not 12 therefore I could not go. I had to explain to him that you had to be 12 or older and that 31 is a MUCH higher number than 12 therefore I could go see him.....LOL

Crazy Busy.......As Usual

Well it has now been 2 weeks since we took Pop down to the hospital for his surgery and he is still "residing" at St. Luke's. The Dr are hoping that he will be able to come home on Saturday. We have all been taking turns going back and forth to visit. It is about an hour and 20 min drive one way. I went and saw him last Wednesday before my 4 day trek to Springfield and he was doing well. I returned home late Sunday and headed down to see him on Monday. I could not believe the difference in him. He looked great and was getting around so well! I was so excited to see such a major change in him during just the 4 days that I was out of town. He had a minor set back with his white blood cell count rising, but was not showing any outward signs of infection (ie: no fever etc.). They sent a specialist in to see him on Tuesday of this week to check in to this problem. He recommended giving him pennicillin which Pop is allergic to. Therefore they moved him over to the ICU wing on the 6th floor and desensitized him with benadryl and another medicine so that he could have the pennicillin. It worked his white blood cell count dropped 4 points so we are happy about that.

Wrap up of my time in Springfield.......We left Thursday morning and got to the hotel just in time to not have to wait in line for a bellhop. We were able to get up to our room and situated and relax a bit before the first roll call. Official pictures of the Queens were done and the girls spent a few hours working on the production number and getting to know each other better. Friday we were up and moving around gearing up for the interview portion followed by more time practicing for the grand march and individual stage time. Queen Lauren enjoyed a nice dinner with her parents and we visited with the crew from Crawford County then time to hit the hay for another full day of activities on Saturday. Saturday was the prelim competition and Queen Lauren did an amazing job!!!! She rocked it in her beautiful gown, and looked fabulous in her swimsuit, and was a knockout in her business suit!!! Sunday was full of more practice in the morning followed by a devotional service and farewell and thanks from the State Queen Morgan. Then we headed to the room to get everything packed amd down to the cars before going to the Finals Banquet. They started with the dance and it was GREAT!!!! they danced to "I got a feeling by the Black Eyed Peas". Queen Lauren had fun and really had a blast with the dance. Menard County Hayley Freeman is the new Miss Illinois County Fair Queen and she will do a wonderful job. Again, I just want to say how proud I am of my Queen she is such a great young lady and really did a superb job representing Bond County!!!!!

I got to spend time with my fair family and had lots of laughs......Carmen saved Julie and was able to remove all the demons from her body!!!! LOL You had to be there to understand. Once again Wendy Bell did a AWESOME, SUPERB, FANTASTIC job with the pageant and her husband Terry as well as their boys and friends and Roger Brand made the stage PERFECT!!!!!! Will post some pics from the pageant soon :)

Back to work this week, and I am having a Margarita Spa Party tmrw night. I need a night with my ladies and some relaxation time as well.

Until next time,
Brooke

The New Year!

Well the New Year began on a high and low note! We took Pop down on the 4th for his Heart Cath to make sure he did not have any blockages and would be able to get his biopsy/surgery later that week. All went well and he was cleared to head to St. Lukes on Thursday. I took Callye to the Dr on Tuesday the 5th and we went to the hospital for a chest x-ray. The Dr. called later that day and said she had a small amount of pnuemonia forming in her lung, so she called in a prescription and told me to keep her at home until Thursday. Chad took off work on Thursday and took Callye to the Dr. so that I could go to the hospital with Pop and the rest of the family for his procedure.

Chad called and said all went well with the Dr. appt and that she sounded much better and the Dr. said she could return to daycare and to have a follow up chest x-ray in 10 days to make sure it is completly cleared up.

We had a very looooooooooooong day on Thursday as we left at 7:30 a.m. and didn't arrive at the hospital until 9:45 a.m. because of the roads and traffic. Pop was not taken back for surgery until 2:30 and then had to sit back there for another 2 hours prior to actually being taken back for the surgery. They called the waiting room at
6:30 to say all was well with the biopsy and they were going ahead with the surgery. Dr. came down about 8:30 and said all went well. He removed the entire upper right lobe of his lung.

He is doing very well after a minor set back on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. He is still in the ICU and the Dr said he will be there thru today but plans to move him back to the 6th floor tmrw.

So as you can see in the first 2 weeks of the new year we have been very busy and all over the place!

It is our way of life and we are very accustomed to if we have to much down time I am not sure we would know what to do. LOL :) I am going to see Pop after work tonight and will let everyone know how he is when I see him.

No slowing down for us, I leave on Thursday for the State Pageant and will return late on Sunday night. I will give updates during the weekend when I have time!

Until next time, keep your head up and a smile on your face :)
